Why This Class
You are interested in volunteering as a Therapy dog Team with one of the local organizations. You would like to explore whether your dog is comfortable with the activities of a therapy dog team. You would like to get a glimpse of what therapy dog activities look like and involve.
​Who this class is for
This class is for dogs who have good public manners and are curious and gently happy about interacting with people. This class is for people who are interested in learning whether volunteering as a Therapy Dog team is for them. The curriculum of the class is for teams who would like to learn and work on dog and hander skills that will support the safety and comfort of those being visited, the staff of the facility, the dog handler, the dog and other people who may be in the same area.

What is a Therapy Dog Team​​
Therapy dogs provide comfort, social interaction and enrichment to people they visit in various settings. That could mean visiting a variety of places where people could benefit from being near, petting, reading to or watching a dog. Therapy Dog teams locally visit hospitals, hospices, palliative care facilities, schools (all levels including Universities), court rooms and more. The dogs are encouraged to interact with a variety of people. Dogs who are comfortable and warmly friendly to strangers are more suited to volunteering as a Therapy dog team.
