Took Time with Each Person and Showed Committed Concern
The trainer was awesome and we very much appreciate the time she took with each person to ensure we understood the basics. Which only proved her undying love for dogs and a committed concern for their future . . . .Thank you so much!

People Can't Believe How Far She has Come
Barney and Chloe are doing well - especially Chloe. ... you would not even recognize the shy girl that you met. She runs up to people and gives them licks - usually when Barney is nearby, but even the other people at the park can't believe how far she has come since we moved in August. I used to have to leave her leash on in the park so someone could step on it if I couldn't catch her. Now she runs right up to the outside of the double gate - a great invention BTW - with me when I get up to leave and call them both! Thanks for the session - it really helped give me confidence - and what a difference it has made!
Very Privileged to Work with Nicky
We felt very privileged and relieved to have had the opportunity to work with Nicky Barham to assist us with some training for our very nervous Australian Shepherd, Hershey. We arranged for private in-home lessons to help with nervous/ aggressive behaviour that Hershey was showing when the doorbell rang and friends/family would come into our home. Hershey's nature has always been nervous of certain noises, movements and so on, but his reaction to the doorbell and his behaviour towards guests in our house worsened following a move to our new home. After waiting a couple of months following the move to see if it was simply a matter of time before he would settle down, his anxiety was deepening and we began to work with Nicky. Hindsight now suggests that we should have begun this work much sooner.
Nicky was very skilled at quickly assessing Hershey's behaviours, and the cause of them. This led her to develop an extremely creative and effective approach for us to manage the behaviours. The plan included everything from preventing Hershey from rushing to the front door in a barking frenzy at the sound of the doorbell, to enticing Hershey to touch with his paw, certain 'scary' sounding objects that was both comical to watch and allowed his confidence to grow in order to help him deal with unexpected movements and noises in the house. Each time we met with Nicky, it was clear just how much thought and caring she put into developing an individualized approach for each session to work with Hershey/us, always using positive, thoughtful techniques that produced amazing results.
Beyond all of Nicky's obvious extensive knowledge and skills of dog training, we also found her to be very flexible with scheduling the sessions, always willing to accommodate a change if needed, and thus very customer service focussed and understanding.
We are so grateful to Nicky for all of her help and support, and we would highly recommend Nicky's services to anyone who is interested in working on issues with their dog. The work Nicky did with us and Hershey has made a huge difference in our lives...

From Overwhelmed to Comfortable
Nike and I learned so much over the past two months. Nike was quite overwhelmed at the beginning and I felt that both Nicky and Gladys handled this with such care and concern. I really appreciate the extra steps they took to ensure that Nike had a wonderful experience. On his last day of class, instead of being overwhelmed by the other dogs, he was trying to get closer to them. A truly wonderful sight.

Rambunctious Miniature Schnauzer
I would like to let you know how much we are all enjoying the classes. Cathy is a wonderful instructor, easy to understand, patient to the 'n'th degree with a wonderful, dry sense of humour. I really appreciate the teaching method, using positive reinforcement and repetition instead of "enforcement". By the way, when we told our vet (Susanne from West Carleton Animal Hospital) where we were taking the training, she was very pleased and said you were the right place to go!
All in all, we're having a great time and looking forward to continuing training at the next level. Thanks so much for helping to make our puppy even more of a joy to have around.
Ratter Learns Recall
Ratter comes to us in house and out of the house when we call his name, we are even able to distract him from passer bys at times (work in progress).
Ron and I very much enjoyed the visit with Nicky, we have total confidence in her abilities and much appreciated all her advice.

Carolark Graduate Wins Kennel Club Championship
Beulah just earned her Canadian Kennel Club Championship last weekend at the Montreal Dog Show. Here is a photo of her taken the week before, at the Cornwall Dog show!
Looking Forward to Level 2!
Thank you so much for the great class, Clifford's good manners are much better! We look forward to being back and joining a level 2 class!

These many accomplishments would not be possible without sound basic obedience fundamentals, and we attribute much of that success to the great puppy experience he got at Carolark.
Even as seasoned and experienced trainers, when we get a new puppy we still rely on the Carolark puppy program for the right balance of both skill development and puppy socialization, and would gladly and strongly recommend Carolark to all new dog or puppy owners.

Total Ball of Uncontrolled Energy!
Higgins started the program as a total ball of uncontrolled energy. He is still a ball of energy but thanks to your guidance he is learning to channel it in the right direction. Not only is he learning how to be a well mannered dog but he is loving it. If he could talk I think he would say that all of his training sessions are only about one thing - having fun! Thank you for giving me the skills to work effectively with him. Higgins begins Level One classes next week and I am confident it will be as rewarding to us both as Puppy classes have been.
Thank you so much for your guidance, your patience, your support, your laughter and being the great instructor that you are!

Carolark's Emergency Recall Saved Our Golden Retriever
We just finished our Level 1 - Basic Good Manners class with Gladys and Nancy and were very impressed with the Emergency Recall. The recall came in handy and perhaps saved our Golden Retriever, Kinzey, from getting hit by a car. Yesterday we were walking Kinzey across the Arnprior bridge (4 lanes of traffic) where she got very nervous and backed away into the traffic (her collar had also come undone). We were very fortunate that the traffic slowed right down to a stop and that the recall had been successful. I applaud the ladies that taught us this recall as it has proven to be effective. Thank you Gladys and Nancy!

Carolark Gave Me Confidence with My First Dog
Here is a picture of Peco with his graduation bone. Peco is my very first dog. I was a little nervous in the first couple of weeks when he came home because I wasn't sure how I was supposed to react. I learned a lot from you both. Now I have more confidence when I interact with him. You did a great job! Thank you,
Best Trained Dog in Almonte Because of Carolark
I had the good fortune to be trained at your facility several years ago when Corkey was a little pup. Corkey is 8 years old now and of course, he is an amazing dog. The basis for our friendship was established at Carolark when I learned how to relate to Corkey. Those lessons still resonate in my mind and are an everyday happening in our home.
Yesterday, I stopped in at the local pet shop to get some "treats" for Corkey. He loves visiting the pet stores (this one's in Almonte) as it is always a good experience for him. "He's the best trained dog in Almonte" according to the saleslady there. They are amazed how I can get Corkey to do things without a word being spoken by using the clicker. For example, yesterday I told them (He draws a crowd...customers love watching him) that I could get Corkey to put both paws on a bag of dog food without saying a word. I placed a bag of dog food on the floor and with the clicker, had Corkey with two paws on the bag in under a minute. They find this amazing and credit me or Corkey with applause.
As we drove home, I was thankful for having come across Carolark and for what I have learned from the experience. The applause is all yours. Sincere thanks!

Training Dogs Since the 1970's: Glad Methods Have Changed!
I have been meaning to send you a note to let you know how impressed I am with the clicker training method which you taught me when I joined your puppy class with my Golden Retriever, Monti, in the summer of 2008.
As you know I have been training dogs in competitive obedience since the 1970's, starting with my first Bearded Collie using the then popular Kholer method. WOW! have training methods changed for the better, for us trainers and also of course for our companion dogs. I had become more and more uncomfortable with the use of force and dominance in my training and you opened up a new wonderful world for me with clicker training. Although I never used excessive force, I still had to «impose my will» on my dogs, and even though we did it humanely and with sensitivity, I observed my dog enjoying training and competing less and less.
Now with Monti, it is the opposite. The more we train and do advanced work, the more he looks forward to it, the more he enjoys it; he is allowed to make mistakes which I just ignore and within a few tries, he drops that behaviour and tries to proceeds to find the right one.
We started with you when he was around 10 weeks of age, and it has been a great adventure in learning for me. I was not familiar with that approach before I joined your class and from the first week I was curious to find out more about it and to train Monti exclusively with the clicker method. I found that you gave me information on the principles and the approach, allowing me to use it for all sorts of training with this. Once you get the principles, the applications are infinite, isn't that wonderful!
Monti is a delightful dog who is always happy to work with me, never shows signs of distress in learning situations, keeps on trying to discover what behaviours will get me to click and has essentially learned to learn with this method. I am preparing him for obedience competitions, for rally o competitions, and for agility; and he loves all of it. He is 18 months old now and I am looking forward to going to trials with him this year.
I have also retrained my other Golden, Bailey, a crossover dog, with this method, and he has earned his CD this summer with lovely scores in the 190's. So thank you very much, Carolyn, for having introduced me to this fantastic method. Bailey and Monti send their thanks too!!
Patient Instructors for Magnus the Vizsla
This was my 3rd class with the Carolark team and, as usual, it was great. As a first time owner, I need lots of instruction + patient instructors and that's what I've found at Carolark!

Getting to fun with Susan and Finnegan
My small puppy and I completed our second round of training at Carolark. The trainers have all been so knowledgeable and helpful and my puppy and I have learned so much! This l2nd session on puppy manners was exceptional. I went in with my puppy being a nervous little dog that was fearful of everything on his walk and left a confident fun happy puppy. Everyone in the class noticed the transformation. Gladys was so knowledgeable in understanding the behaviours I was having issues with and my puppy reacted so well to her training it was transformational. I drive an hour to get to Carolark and it is well worth the drive. Can’t wait for the next group of sessions.
