ABOUT OUR CLASSES

Welcome to Carolark.   Congratulations on the new addition to your family.

Puppy class is for puppies under 16 weeks of age and their families.  We recommend a booster vaccination or your veterinarian’s approval to attend. (The complete vaccination series and rabies are not required).  We limit the classes to nine families.  (The exception might be if one of the staff has a puppy).  Also anyone can attend as much as they like without their puppy, for free.  We often have someone auditing a course while they are waiting for a puppy, or their pup is too young to start.  The pups in class benefit from seeing that many more people in a nice way; parents can focus on their kids and then go home and practise with their puppy.  Everybody wins!  It is our puppy head start program :>)

Our Level One Basic Good Manners class is seven lessons.  The registration fee includes a booklet the first week and weekly handouts to help follow along and practise at home.  The maximum enrolment in each group is 10 dogs.  If there are more than six dogs, there will be two staff with the class.  If a student has to miss a class or just wants to review, he/she is welcome to attend any other class without their dog for free.

Our focus here is on foundations for people and pets.  People learn teaching and management skills.  Pets learn the human rules of how to get what they want living with people.  We offer several training levels, including Rally Obedience, a gentle and happy style of competition that has three or four levels at which to compete.  One of our Instructors is actually a qualified Rally Obedience judge.  Several folks have successfully competed in Rally O and, although we do not specifically teach CKC obedience, many of our students have gone on to do very well in CKC obedience competition.

We do offer private behaviour consultations.  Individual coaching, one topic classes (loose leash walking, tricks, training skills) are also offered. There are good places in the area teaching the specifics of Agility, Herding, Flyball, and CKC Obedience.  We concentrate on the basics so people and pets have a strong foundation.

Contact the office for registration fee information, class availability and to register.

Please come and visit.  We look forward to meeting you.

What Others Have to Say ~~

"In particular, the safety tips have been invaluable. The "Off" command has already saved my dogs life when I accidentally spilled a full bottle of arthritic dose aspirin and he wanted to help pick them up. The "Off" and "Down" commands had him drop and stay put while I gathered up the potentially fatal pills, and I was delighted at how well those lessons had set in .... the safety tips such as having the dog anchored when in the car have proven invaluable. The most poignant tip for me was never to let tethered dogs physically interact. I would never have thought of the danger of dogs getting hurt by becoming tangled but two of my dog's siblings are dead because they were left on tie downs in the yard while their owner went to work."
    Barb Rolston and Lucky

"The personal interest taken by the staff in all the students (human as well as canine!) provides a perfect atmosphere for learning
..... We truly believe that the Centre's approach to teaching and the valuable tips, tricks, and ideas which it provides fosters and speeds the bond between a dog and its humans ..... "
Paul Baker, Holly Larocque, & Rose

" ..... I've learned how to communicate with my dog in a way she clearly understands, and the results have been tremendous!"
Terry C. Kirouac, M.B.A., Management Consultant

"They (Carolark staff) really know how to teach people, from kids to grandpas, how to make it work and make it fun"
Karen Pryor, Author, Trainer, Behaviourist

"I have long been an advocate of Carolyn Clark's methods of teaching obedience ... Puppy classes are both helpful and entertaining. I strongly encourage all my puppy buyers to attend this school."
Heather Simpson, Borzoi Breeder
